Long before Pivovar saw the light of day, all founders joined a youth movement and became friends for life. They spent hours together and so it happened that they were invited to help on a event. It was the birthday party of a couple of friends who turned 40. The location? Make a guess… The Feys Brewery indeed!

We all fell in love with the beautiful site, owned by Hendrik Nelde. A man with vision for events that distinguish themselves by looks and atmosphere. The idea was born. There was no other option than to organize a party to remember at that outstanding site. At that time, it didn’t matter that it was still under construction, because we all saw the possibilities of the old brewery.

Next to having a good time and sharing a beer, we shared another passion: electronic music. The predecessor of Pivovar was born under the name ‘YOLO Festival’. May sound silly now, but for a group of 16-year-olds, it sounded perfect for what we were planning to do. The idea was simple: throwing a bash for all likeminded youngsters with a focus on electronic music and a renewing location for an event of that kind. We weren’t wrong. For those who were part of the YOLO Festival: you must remember what it was like… It was great! It also meant that people from the neighbourhood rediscovered this location that had remained abandoned for so long. The brewery found a new family, and the seed for a bigger event was planted. Story’s passed mouth to mouth and everyone was in for another party.

Some years later, in 2016, the first Pivovar came to light. The golden combo of some local talent and two headliners of the Ohm agency ‘Korridor’ (the former Form and Function agency which is now known as VOLTAGE) made for a perfect night. We knew immediately that this was not the last Pivovar, and so did the partygoers.

Unfortunately, our Pivovar Family had to be patient. We kept them in tension for quite a long time, but eventually the second Pivovar was planned on May 11^th of 2019. From that day on, Pivovar was unconditionally linked to the Feys Brewery. People from all around started to look forward to new Pivovar events, and our home of rave became an established value for all techno lovers.

Logically, we didn’t wait another three years to organize a new Pivovar meetup. Our third event was scheduled on March 13^th of 2020. Indeed, read this date again. March 13^th… A Friday to be more specific. Doesn’t ring a bell? For all Belgians active in the music industry or event industry it must still make your heart skip a beat. It was the day we lost our freedom, because it will forever remain a black day in Belgian entertainment history. The lockdown got announced, and all party people got to be locked up in their homes for a long time. No parties or big events for almost two years. No human contact, no shared music vibes, no perspective for an unbearable couple of months. Ever since, we agreed on never throwing a Pivovar event on a Friday the 13^th ever again.

11 Pivovar parties further, we are still not done, and we won’t be for a long time. Curious for more? Sit tight and be prepared for everything yet to come. Family never leaves, you know?
